Classes Presented by Dear Caroline

Sharps Classes

Breaking Skin: A Sharps Play Overview

Level: Beginner

An overall introduction to those curious about or new to sharps play, which includes any play where the intention is to break the skin (a little or a lot).  I discuss the various sharps that can be used in play (including techniques on how to use them), including needles, porcupine quills, hooks, sutures, skin staples, and scalpels/knives.  I always include discussion of safety considerations and best practice tips to help mitigate risk and determine one’s individual risk profile.

Newbie Needles: An Intro to Needle Play

Level: Beginner

An overall introduction to those curious about or new to needle play. I discuss my own journey with needle play specifically and walk attendees through the process of determining what kind of needles to use, how they can be used, where they can be used on the body, and what individuals need to know regarding safety, setup, and cleanup. I always include discussion of safety considerations and best practice tips to help mitigate risk and determine one’s individual risk profile.

The Poke & the Pull: Playing with Porcupine Quills

Level: Beginner

You've never felt a poke quite like this! This class takes an in-depth look at the use of natural North American porcupine quills in kink. This class will cover information on what porcupine quills are and how they may be used in play, as well as safety considerations to keep in mind when deciding to play with quills. I will share information on how quills can be sourced in an ethical manner and thoroughly cleaned and prepared for play, including ways they can be dyed pretty colors!

The Art of Sharps

Level: Intermediate

An exploration of artistic sharps play and the wide variety of ways sharps can be used to create works of art on human canvases. I will share my own process for developing, crafting, and executing design ideas using various sharps and other artistic items (such as ribbons, flowers, beads, etc.). This class will include discussion of the use of needles, porcupine quills, hooks, sutures, skin staples, and scalpels/knives and explore different ideas to create something beautiful out of pain!

Using Stencils in Artistic Sharps Play

Level: Intermediate

This class is a thorough how-to on the use of stencils to make artistic sharps ideas reality! I will provide information on how you can develop your own stencils, and go through my own process for creating them. I will also demonstrate different ways to apply a stencil to skin, and take participants through the creation, transfer, and execution process from top to bottom. This class can be taught as a longer intensive with hands-on participation, using your own stencil or one of mine!

Hooked: Non-Suspension Hook Pulls & Art

Level: Intermediate

Hook suspensions are an intense and amazing form of kink, but there are many other things you can do with hooks that don't involve leaving the ground! This class will focus on the use of hooks in non-suspension play, including hook pulls (for solo or multiple players) and creating artistic piercing designs using hooks.  I will cover the types of hooks that are out there (and the ones I prefer to use), how to insert hooks, planning designs for hooks, and safety considerations to keep in mind.

Lacing Skin: Sharps Corsetry

Level: Intermediate

Wearing corsets over the skin can be a breathtaking experience, and wearing one within the skin can be exhilirating! This class covers different methods you can use to create corsets in human flesh using sharps (such as needles, staples and hooks)! I will also discuss materials which can be used for lacing, including ribbon, string, rubber bands, and wire. This class includes a discussion of safety considerations to keep in mind when thinking of  materials to use and corset placement and lacing.

Blood Play Classes

A Bloody Beating: Blood Impact Play

Level: Intermediate to Advanced

This class examines the intersection of blood play and impact play, and ways to approach impact scenes which intentionally draw blood. I will discuss a variety of toys which can be used for blood impact play, ways they can be used, and safety considerations such as sanitization/sterilization of toys and containment. I will also discuss the various risks of blood impact play so individuals can consider their own risk profiles for it, including mental, emotional, physical, and environmental.

Determining Your Blood Play Risk Profile

Level: Intermediate

The intention of this class is never to tell anyone what they can or cannot do, but to review the safety considerations for various types of blood play to assist individuals in determining their own blood play risk profile and what level of risk is acceptable to them. I will discuss considerations related to blood impact play, blood containment practices, and preparation and aftercare. I also discuss potential mental/emotional risks and how to factor those into your risk profile.

Other Classes

Drips, Pours & Rainbows: A Wax Play Overview

Level: Beginner

A comprehensive overview of all things wax play, including different methods which can be used for melting wax (with or without flames) and safety considerations which should be kept in mind. I review wax types, temperatures, melting methods, how to color your own wax (including getting it to glow under a black light), and different techniques for applying wax and the sensations that typically result. I also discuss prep and cleanup of the space and recommended materials.

Kink for One: Playing Solo

Level: Beginner

A discussion-based class in which attendees are encouraged to share their own experiences or concerns with solo play - because a partner isn't always available! I will share my own journey with playing solo and discuss ways it can be used for self-care and self-reflection. I discuss different kinks people enjoy tackling solo, safety considerations, and ways to mitigate risk. Included is a discussion of self-harm and how to differentiate it from more intense solo playing (such as sharps play).
